Story Synopsis for Summer LARP #6 (2018)

When Ace returned from enjoying his sandwich, he found the other heroes gathered on the Field of Destiny. He knew instantly that something had happened.

“What happened?” he asked.

The Semi-Tactical Operator stepped forward. “A giant metal dragon attacked. It took all of our ranged weapons, magical and otherwise.”

“But not my grenades,” declared the Assassin proudly.

“Thankfully we still have our swords,” Sage Petunia observed.

And just then Lord Maul’s minions attacked, for it was the dark one who had sent the Metal Dragon. Unprepared for this secondary assault, the adventurers quickly found themselves driven back until they were across the Somber Footbridge and onto the Mystical Isle.

The heroes rallied and swiftly drove off Maul Corp, driving them back across the Footbridge.

Then the Metal Dragon reappeared and destroyed the Footbridge with bolts of lightning, rending both wood and air with electricity and magic.

Now trapped on the Island, the heroes thought they might be able to rest, but as they settled down onto the ground, they jumped up in surprise and anger. But they did not jump far. The blades of grass soared over their heads and a line of terrifying creatures marched towards them.

Lord Maul had miniaturized the adventurers! And he had bewitched a local ant colony who now sent their warriors marching towards the hapless heroes!

Fortunately, Lord Maul has also miniaturized their weapons and while ants may be skilled at battle, tiny adventurers are more skilled. The heroes drove back the ant assault for they knew that if they reached Lifeblood Castle’s outer gates, it’s latent magic would undo Lord Maul’s evil spell and return them to their natural sizes.

One by one, the heroes popped back up to a regular size as they approached the Castle.

But now Ra was angered for he was fond of ants, and he turned his eye upon the heroes. Fearing they might melt under his fearsome glare, they swiftly fashioned canoes from the stores of bark found in the Castle and paddled back to the mainland.

Ra’s eye followed.

The heroes fled up the Shimmering Alley and into the Faraway Leaf Inn where they all quickly rehydrated before they were reduced to sand.

Ra was displeased. Very displeased.

Story Synopsis for Summer LARP #5 (2018)

The Great Dragon of the Realm was awake and terrorizing the local villagers and had been all week. All that lumbering, roaring, screaming, and crunching had also awoken the Great Dragon of the Island and the Great Dragon of the Woods. All three Great Dragons were hungry, cranky, and running low on snack foods. The villages were becoming severely underpopulated and condiments were in short supply.

Ace fled to the Field of Destiny, dragging the Scribe behind him. In their haste, the Scribe lost both her quill and her scroll. But still Ace was hoping to find others brave enough to face the Great Dragons and drive them back into their lairs to slumber again, even if their heroic tale would never be told, or at least not told accurately.

When they reached the Field of Destiny, they found the fearless Dark Knight and a new companion were already there gathering forces for the coming battle. Soon their hearts soared as an Assassin and a Swordfighter came charging over the hill. Then their hearts quailed as they feared the two were running from a Dragon. Fortunately, they were not. And so they all hid under the trees together, hatching a plan.

The first order of business was to recruit more brave heroes unafraid to face the Great Dragons. A great shout went out across the interdimensional communications network, and soon six more brave adventurers arrived at the Field of Destiny. The Scribe scratched their names into the dirt, but the record was later obliterated in the battles.

The battle plan was simple: divide and conquer. So the band of heroes divided into three conquering forces. Working together and independently, the adventurers tracked the Great Dragons to the Mystical Isle and attacked. After a long battle, in which many died and many were revived, the heroes managed to trap all of the Great Dragons in their lairs and seal them in for another centuries-long slumber.

Then Lord Maul, seeing that the Resistance had once again gained the upper hand, seized all their minds, and the heroes began to fight each other. The resulting epic skirmish so frightened the Scribe that she went to find a sandwich, so that’s all of the story that is known.

Story Synopsis for Summer LARP #4 (2018)

On the Field of Destiny were 4 comrades-in-arms: the super soldier Eden Space, one of Lord Maul’s Assassins, a Semi-Tactical Operator, and a Mercenary. While talking, they discovered they all hailed from the same Village of Cats Haven.

Soon the small band of warriors-for-hire was joined by Meyer Mired, a Jilockian from the planet Zimoth and an agent of Lord Maul. He told them that he had come through the portal to the Realm of the Silver Elves seeking dragons and he was very annoyed! He complained bitterly that he had discovered it was just a tourist trap.

“The dragons are a lie!” he declared loudly. Meyer Mired also shared with the expatriate Villagers some of his butterbeer. Unbeknownst to the Jilockian, the butterbeer had long expired due to the time dilation of his many interdimensional jumps and so it poisoned the minds of the Villagers. Now highly susceptible to suggestion and influenced by the rantings of Meyer Mired, they suddenly screamed in horror and fear!

“Dragons!” shouted Eden Space.

“Run for it!” cried Lord Maul’s Assassin.

“Find cover!” yelled the Semi-Tactical Operator.

“Arm yourselves!” bellowed the Mercenary. And so they all grabbed their blasters and ran.

Meyer Mired watched them flee and thought, “Those Cats Haven Villagers are certainly strange creatures.” He then took his tainted butterbeer and wandered over to a group of Marauders. He promptly offered to share some of his bounty. Just as promptly, he started his lament about the Dragons of Dragonwood. The Dark Knight, the demon-human hybrid Aloysius Trancy, the Birthday Boy, Sage Petunia, Martha McFly, and the Wanderer all listened entranced as the dangerous brew took hold of their minds. When Meyer Mired told them about the Villagers fleeing, the Marauders “knew” immediately what had happened.

“Dragons!” shouted Martha McFly! Which was atypical for her as she is generally friendly with old people and only gets into fistfights with people who call her chicken or applesauce.

“They’ll be eaten for sure!” cried Sage Petunia, a Forest Elf.

“We must find them!” yelled the Birthday Boy.

“And kill them all!” bellowed Aloysius Trancy, feeling extra woozy as he’d only recently been pushed through a portal for being too annoying because he’s just so flamboyant.

Now that last bellow from Aloysius was a bit of an unexpected turn, but no one was thinking clearly at this point, including Meyer Mired who was delighted to “learn” that the dragons were real.

“Arm yourselves!” cried the Dark Knight, thinking to himself that he was glad he has mastered the Crack of Darkness which would allow him to thrust any opponent into a pocket universe for long enough for him to get away.

And so the Marauders all took up their swords, their spears, and their sabers, but left their wits.

“Wait!” roared Sage Petunia. “Someone must guard the Sanctuary!” she said as she looked around at the Field of Destiny as if it was a haven not just for cats but for all creatures who feared dragons (which is not say that cats really fear dragons for cats are known to sometimes be dragons). As a Forest Elf, Sage Petunia had strong magical nature powers and she wondered if she ought to create some plants or maybe call a storm.

“I shall stand guard!” declared the Wanderer, breaking Sage Petunia from her reverie.

“And I shall join you,” said Martha McFly, who wasn’t really interested in confronting a dragon as she was crunchy and feared she might taste good with ketchup.

And so, Aloysius Trancy, Meyer Mired, Sage Petunia, the Dark Knight, and the Birthday Boy set out to hunt down the Villagers, not quite sure if their goal was to kill them all or save them from the dragons.

And so began a merry chase. The Villagers running from the dragons. The Marauders hunting for the Villagers. The dragons slumbering.

Throughout the chase, a Statue appeared here and there. Fortunately, no one died. This may not have been for the best.

In the middle of it all, Sir Wulfric fell out of a portal, followed the Statue for a while, and then joined the Marauders on their merry chase, not really caring that their story made no sense for he simply relished the challenge.

Eden Space and Lord Maul’s Assassin returned to the Field of Destiny hoping to find Sanctuary from the dragon. In their madness, they set upon and killed the Wanderer and Martha McFly.

And the dragons? Well. That is the story. For the Semi-Tactical Operator and the Mercenary went on a reconnaissance mission to see if the Villagers could safely return. While passing too near the Faraway Leaf Inn, they were not as sneaky as they intended to be and thus unintentionally awakened the Great Dragon of the Realm who snatched them up and swallowed them in a single bite — so that their potential crunchiness or the appropriate condiment to use were both irrelevant.

The Great Dragon then lumbered down and ate everyone else without bothering to even bring salt. Meyer Mired experienced an exceedingly brief moment of happiness at having finally seen a real dragon.

And thus ended the adventure.

Story Synopsis for Summer LARP #1 (2018)

Gathered on the Field of Destiny were the following heroes:

    1. Snapple carries a truncheon and can whack you.
    2. King Maximillian is just a human with no special powers and who isn’t even very good with a sword. He wishes to conquer a single galaxy, just one galaxy will be sufficient. The Milky Way is preferred but he will take another galaxy if offered. His boot always falls off, and he carries both a dagger and a sword.
    3. The Demon has possessed a human body for a long time, so long that neither can remember when they became one. The bullets from the Demon’s gun emit an electrical charge which paralyzes the person struck. The Demon looks part-wolf, but she broke her ears so you must imagine them. She is very persuasive.
    4. No One.
    5. Norbeinhind the Unknown.
    6. Sir Bulfrich thinks he may be a human, probably, but he has a bunch of extra health as well as wrist-mounted rocket launchers which carry explosives. He wields a very large greatsword known as Overkill and another slightly less large sword.
    7. The Swordfighter knows he is a human.
    8. Idono carries a gun but doesn’t know who he is due to amnesia.
    9. Dark Soul has multiple hit points and regains lost hit points for killing someone. However, any bit of his body counts as a torso hit, and his health depends on how he feels; today it is 4.
    10. Ace is a ¼ Dragon, ¼ Phoenix, ½ Human hybrid. The Dragon gives Ace wings, which he keeps hidden, and the ability to breathe within fire and to breath fire out as a weapon. The Phoenix allows Ace the power to come back to life, to change the size of his dragon wings and his height, and to ignite himself on fire. The Human gives Ace the appearance of a 14-year-old human, although he is 2,004 years old. Ace is damaged by ice, water and cold, and so avoids all three.
    11. Quark is not sure but thinks he might be a troll or a giant. He calls himself a Taller for he may not be bigger, but he is taller. Quark has 4 health points and can sit down to heal 1 health point every 2 seconds he remains sitting stationary. Quark carries a big shield and a big mace. He has excessive strength and can toss people around. In particular, he can throw his indestructible partner about as a weapon.
    12. Linz the Lizard can climb trees and smack people with his tail. He has healing saliva, but he neither licks nor spits but merely taps to heal. He is no chameleon, however, he can sit up in a tree and be invisible. He hides there and ambushes from above.
    13. The Observer has powers of observation.
    14. Some Guy showed up late.

The events of the day

The adventurers learned that Ace had infiltrated one of Lord Maul‘s armies and was going to steal one of their three power crystals. So they decided to run combat drills on the Mystical Isle until the battle with Lord Maul’s minions began.

They divided into teams. On one side was Idono, Sir Bulfrich, Quark, Linz the Lizard and the Swordfighter. On the other was Ace, King Maximillian, Dark Soul, and Snapple. The Observer’s observations were aided by the Demon, Norbeinhind, and No One.

Quark and Idono charged. The Swordfighter followed as well as Linz the Lizard. Dark Soul battled with The Swordfighter and Linz the Lizard. King Maximillian, Snapple, and Ace moved up to attack the other team’s base.

Sir Bulfrich used Overkill ruthlessly, so King Maximillian threatened to kill Overkill which distracted everyone with a discussion on whether Overkill could be killed. During these discussions, it was revealed that some felt it was unfair that Sir Bulfrich and Quark were on the same team. No One wasn’t paying attention. Being a brave soldier, Idono just walked casually past the argument and grabbed the flag and took it back to his own base.

New teams were chosen. Sir Bulfrich, Quark, Ace faced off against all the others. Dark Soul decided that the best strategy was a quick defeat and so rushed a tree to impale himself on a branch. Seeing his wisdom, Idono, King Maximillian, the Swordfighter, Snapple, and Linz the Lizard followed suit.

Quark then tossed Ace some distance so that Ace would not regenerate near Quark’s home base.

Some Guy showed up late, so they set up for another drill which was called off the heroes realized they needed to replenish their strength at the Faraway Leaf Inn before facing Lord Maul’s minions.

Lord Maul’s army had three power stones. When Ace returned from his reconnaissance mission with only the one, the adventurers decided they wanted to get all three. Quark and Snapple were tasked with guarding the power crystal that Ace had stolen.

As the other heroes laid their plans to capture the other 2 crystals, they were attacked in force by Lord Maul’s minions who wished to reclaim the stolen power crystal. Although mightier in number, the minions were smaller in height and thus were forced back with ease. The adventurers rushed to Lord Maul’s army’s base of operations where No One stole another power crystal and ran so fast he was nearly invisible.

Then the heroes attempted to steal the final crystal, but they were driven back as all of Lord Maul’s rather short troops had rallied to defend their stronghold.

The heroes regrouped and knowing that they must gain all three crystal to stop Lord Maul, they called upon Ra to assist them. Ra sent a blistering heat down upon the battlefield, and so Lord Maul’s regiment surrendered the final power crystal and fled back to their home dimensions.

Story Synopsis for Spring LARP #13 (2018)

Gathered on the Field of Destiny were the following brave souls:

    • Dark Soul has multiple hit points and killing someone gives him additional hit points if he’s lost any. However, any bit of his body counts as a torso hit. His health depends on how he feels, and today’s it’s only 2.
    • Death’s Apprentice can bring people back from the dead. He can also “life link” to others by merely tapping someone on the shoulder. This gives the “life linked” hero an additional health point every 4 seconds. As Death’s Apprentice, he himself has only 1 health point. If the “life linked” hero takes damage, Death’s Apprentice is sucked back into Hades and must recover there for 10 seconds before returning to Dragonwood. If Death’s Apprentice releases a “tormented soul” then everyone in the vicinity takes 1 damage. If he casts a “shade” then Death’s Apprentice can ignore all projectiles.
    • Dio, a vampire who can control time. When Dio yells out the magic words, “stop time” then time stops for up to 5 seconds. While time is stopped, Dio can feed off the blood of either corpses or willing living beings. Every two feedings, Dio gains an extra second of “stop time” power, with a cap of 10 seconds.
    • Discord from the planet Mercuron is hooked up to a server on the planet Mars, known as the Mars Matrix, which is really just Wikipedia under a different name.
    • Doctor Ivan Giggles, an engineer, turret maker, wall builder, warrior, and sentry who carries explosives. Watch out! He also owns a shield as well and armor but did not bring them today. It’s a little too hot today.
    • Eden Space, a Space Marine and human with super strength and an awesome arsenal. He has the same lab-modified blood that flows through the veins of Ace, Spade, and King.
    • The Inventor, an elf healer and tinkerer who can heal others with his touch. If the Inventor spends 5 seconds standing still or slowly walking, without making any attacks, he can transform a round of ammo that he is holding into an explosive round. If he spends 30 seconds under the same conditions holding a gun, the weapon becomes armor-piercing. Unfortunately, due to a demon’s curse, the Inventor cannot run.
    • The Juggernaut is otherwise known as King. He is a half-brother of Ace and Spade and was designed in the same laboratory that created them. He was designed to kill.
    • The Masked Man.
    • Shade, a de-ranked ice knight who has fallen out of rank because of his selfish actions. Any hit point he deals with his sword freezes the object rather than cutting. This freeze lasts 30 seconds. Shade has an ego and this causes him to react disproportionately and overestimate his own abilities.
    • Stealth, a tactical operator who likes tactics. He has five weapons on his shield, a pistol with a quick release and 4 rockets, plus a melee weapon and a Tactical Regular.
    • A sword fighter.
    • Four unknown entities who chose to remain unidentified.

The most honored and wise Storyteller stepped forward to reveal to the gathered heroes that there was another party, the Juggernaut, who was battling against Lord Maul and his minions in Maul Corp and that perhaps the heroes could bribe this third party to fight with them. The Juggernaut could be found at Lifeblood Castle at the center of the Mystical Isle.

Because the Juggernaut was so susceptible to bribes, Maul Corp was also seeking him out to bribe him to fight with them instead of against them. As time was of the essence, the adventurers knew they must act quickly to reach the Juggernaut first! The gathered heroes quickly charged off the Field of Destiny, past Decision Point, over the Somber Footbridge, and onto the Mystical Isle where they found the Juggernaut hanging out by a boat in the Lifeblood Castle’s moat.

The heroes offered honor, glory, and fellowship to the Juggernaut if he was to fight on their side. Then Maul Corp arrived and offered gold. The Juggernaut chose the gold and so Maul Corp succeeded in recruiting Juggernaut.

The Juggernaut was unstoppable and crushed everything in his path. He utterly destroyed the adventurer’s Eastern Point base on Mystical Isle.

Fortunately, this destruction caused the Juggernaut to overheat and he shed some of his armor, making him vulnerable to attack. He set out for Maul Corp’s West Point to rest. The adventurers rushed out of their ruins to attack the base. Without the Juggernaut’s destructive power to overcome, the heroes defeated Maul Corp soundly. Seeing how the winds were blowing, the Juggernaut then decided to join the heroes.

Discord, Shade, the sword fighter, and three of the unknown entities had already headed off to relax and celebrate their victory when the Masked Man revealed that there were traitors in their midst. These turncoats had placed bombs all over the Mystical Isle. Dark Soul, Death’s Apprentice, Dio, Doctor Ivan Giggles, Eden Space, the Juggernaut, Stealth, and the Masked Man needed to locate and defuse the bombs before they destroyed the Isle and all its magic. A hunt began and the remaining adventurers managed to defuse all of the bombs and kill all of those who had betrayed them. They then went to join their fellows at the Faraway Leaf Inn for strategizing and refreshments.

Story Synopsis for Spring LARP #10 (2018)

With the help of their new giant friends, the adventurers have been busy hunting down and eradicating the minions of Lord Maul. The decimation of his Maul Corp legion has enraged the evil master, and so he has reached out to his ally, Death, and together they have hatched a most evil plan to destroy all the heroes of this dimension and secure them for the legions of Death. Now Death walks the prairies, the woods, the fields, even the waters of Dragonwood.

The adventurers have an advantage though. Death has entered this dimension by taking possession of his great24-grandson, Ace, who is one of their own number and one who they know how to free from the grip of Death. Without a body to possess, Death will be sucked back into his own realm. To free Ace, the heroes must find his half-brother, Spade. Eleven heroes gather at the Field of Destiny to discuss their current problem: Spade has gone missing.

Without warning, three adventurers succumbed instantly to a Heat Curse. Their limbs were rendered boneless, so their fellow heroes left them flopping in the shade of an inhabited tree with the promise of the tree spirit to watch over them and nurse them back to health by regrowing their bones from the tree’s roots.

Realm of the Silver ElvesHaving settled their fallen companions, one of the heroes revealed that they had heard tales of Spade being seen near Decision Point, and so armed with a map of the realm, the remaining eight adventurers set off to find Spade, with Death close on their heels.

When the adventurers reached Decision Point, they found no sign of Spade, but a wandering wizard was there. This wandering wizard offered to scry for Spade’s current location. While the heroes were negotiating terms with the wandering wizard, Death fell upon them! Though Death was fearsome and armed with his Spear of Souls, the heroes were heroic and skilled in battle. Also, one of the heroes had wisely stocked up on holy water bullets, and thus Death was swiftly defeated. Death faded into the ground back towards Hades.

The heroes returned their attention to the wandering wizard who pulled out his scrying bowl and gazed within it. The wizard told the heroes that Spade would soon be at the World Tree.

Death, however, had quickly recouped his strength and he rose again before the adventurers could continue on their journey. The combined efforts of the eight heroes with the talents of the wandering wizard soon drove Death back to his knees. While he was recovering, the adventurers took their chance and fled toward the World Tree in hopes of soon finding Spade.

Death soon followed. But at the World Tree, the wandering wizard created an illusionary wall obscuring both it and the adventurers from Death, and so Death walked on by.

Soon Death realized that the adventurers were no longer in front of him, so he turned back and soon spotted the adventurers dashing through the illusionary wall and running back towards Decision Point. He followed swiftly intending to bring all eight to his side, but he soon found out those adventurers were just an illusion for they all walked into the water and then disappeared.

Meanwhile, the real adventurers had failed to find Spade at the World Tree, and the wandering wizard had looked again into his scrying bowl to reveal that Spade was now on his way to visit Valhalla. Unfortunately, while at the World Tree, yet another hero was felled by a heat curse. This hero was tucked under the tree with the promise of the Guardian to keep him safe until his bones regrew. The heroes then stepped out from behind the illusionary wall and began their travels to the rainbow bridge to ask passage to Valhalla.

Meanwhile Death, deeply angered to have been so fooled, rushed back towards the World Tree where he began to trace the scent of their souls on their journey to Valhalla. Valhalla is a realm where Death may enter at any time, but there was no need for once again, the heroes found that Spade had moved on and was heading toward Kattyswampus. Death fell upon the heroes as they were exiting via the Rainbow Bridge. Finding himself outnumbered and facing some of the bravest heroes there were, Death was swiftly defeated again.

The heroes then foolishly took too long to gather their spent ammo and their thoughts and so Death rose again and fell upon them as the approached Kattyswampus. Before the heroes could take action to defend themselves, Death was dragged into Kattyswampus by one of the killer Kattails. Death was not amused. However, he was pleased to see that two of the adventurers had also been dragged under by the Kattails for he knew that he would rise again but their souls would soon be joining his army.

When Death arose, he was surprised to be greeted by a lost soul asking for safe passage to the underworld. This was a delightful turn of events, so Death personally escorted him there.

Meanwhile, following the scrying advice of the wandering wizard, the remaining five adventurers managed to reach the Elven Hideaway. There, much to everyone surprise, the wandering wizard revealed that he was Spade and that their journey had been a test of their worth to help him on his quest to save his half-brother Ace and all of Dragonwood from Death. Also, he needed stuff.

Spade asked the heroes to help him find five magical artifacts so that he could perform the ritual necessary to cast Death from the realm.

The adventurers quickly agreed, and Spade now used the scrying bowl for real to reveal the location of the Ever-Flowing Mug. The adventurers then rushed to the Portal, where they searched for and found the needed artifact. Death was nowhere to be seen. He was too busy giving a tour of his own realm.

Spade looked again into the scrying bowl, and the adventurers set off for Vagabond Nest to find the Heart of the Crystal Giant. At Werewolf Way, Death fell upon them again for he had finished his grand tour of Hades. Fortunately, close at Death’s heels was yet another brave adventurer, and so the six heroes swiftly defeated Death. The adventurers left him disabled and rushed to Vagabond nest, but Death recovered quickly and soon caught up with them. However, Death was feeling a bit woozy by this point, and he was defeated so quickly he wasn’t even sure how it happened.

The adventurers collected the magic artifact, Spade quickly scryed where the next could be found, and then as he touched the Heart of the Crystal Giant, he released its curse upon them all. Now they moved as if swimming through honey. Fortunately, Death was also hit with this curse. The chase was now continued at a walk, a very slow walk.

Slowly, the adventures reached the Invisible Mill, slowly Death followed, slowly they searched for and found the Dagger of Destiny. Slowly, they pulled it from the ground.

Death walked on by. The adventures walked after him.
When they finally reached the Everchanging Artifact, the adventurers paused to retrieve the Shard of the Sun and then walked slowly to the Field of Destiny where Death was found resting.

Spade procured the last artifact needed for his ritual, a Soul of a Fallen Warrior. Spade used the soul to resurrect the warrior, as the Crystal Giant’s curse lifted. The adventures then defeated Death for a final time. Their newest member was skilled at casting water spells, so a weakened Death was quickly disabled. While Death was down, Spade cast his spell, and Death was banished from the realm.

Storyteller’s Preview for Spring LARP #10 (2018): Death Walks Amongst Us

This is their current problem, for Spade has gone missing. But they have heard tales of Spade being seen near Decision Point, and so armed with a map, they set off to find him with Death close on their heels.

Death will be close on their heels the entire time, so he may engage them in battle at any point that he catches up with them. While Death cannot die, Death can only take 6 hits before needing to rest to recover. It takes Death a mere 15 seconds to do so, but if he receives another 6 hits that same day, it will take him 30 seconds to recover. If he receives yet another 6 hits, it will take him 45 seconds to recover, and so on and so forth. Because Death has taken the body of the quarter-Phoenix-quarter-dragon Ace, he is also immune to fire and heat, but he is extra susceptible to water and cold. Cold will slow him down for 10 seconds and the use of water doubles any damage done. He can breathe fireballs (sock bombs) and those have an explosion radius of 1 yard (which is a 6-foot diameter) and their damaging heat will pass through any shield. Fireballs deal 2 damage 5 seconds apart (that is, first damage, 5 seconds, second damage).

If in their quest, all of the adventurers should die, the Guardian of the World Tree has agreed to revive them. They will respawn at the last location they searched for Spade, while Death will be cast back to the one before that with his respawn time will be reset to 15 seconds.

Post-LARP Addendum

Storyteller’s Notes for the Wandering Wizard

At Decision Point, the adventurers will not find Spade but will be met by a Wandering Wizard who approaches with news of Spade’s whereabouts. The Wandering Wizard tells the adventurers that Spade is at the World Tree, but they must move quickly as Death is following them.

The Wandering Wizard offers to travel with the adventurers. He may join them in their battle to help them defeat Death. Water spells deal double damage to Death, but if the WANDERING WIZARD casts a water spell, he himself takes 1 damage. If the Wandering Wizard casts a cold spell, he is unable to run or move quickly but can only walk or move slowly for 10 seconds.

Upon reaching the World Tree, the adventurers will discover that Spade has moved on ahead of them again. The Wandering Wizard will scry his next location.

Upon arriving at the Elven Hideaway, the Wandering Wizard will reveal himself to be Spade in disguise. Telling the adventurers that they have proved their worth as loyal friends of Ace, Spade tells the adventurers that he needs their help to gather 5 magical artifacts to drive Death from Ace.

Upon returning to the Field of Destiny, Spade will collect the soul of a fallen warrior. The adventurers must have disabled Death enough times for his regeneration to be at least 1 minute long. Then the adventurers must then once again defeat Death, and while Death is still reviving, Spade must assemble all five artifacts and chant his spell and then Death will leave Ace and all will be well.

Story synopsis for Spring LARP #9 (2018)

Since that dreadful day when Lord Maul opened the portal to the other dimension, the heroes have been waiting for a chance to strike back against Lord Maul and his evil Maul Corp. Due to disagreements within the heroes, four of them have left the group to form another alliance elsewhere. There were only seven heroes left to stand against the Maul Corp soldiers. But those remaining heroes were waiting for the day that Maul Corp would come back in bigger numbers. They were training and they were getting stronger and stronger until anyone who dared face them would surely lose the battle.

But those training battles were always fair in numbers. The heroes had never faced a battle against twice their numbers or battled against beings from another dimension. That is why they had trained — because they knew they wouldn’t be able to face Lord Maul and his otherworldly creatures unless they were well prepared.

And so the strongest of the heroes remained and waited. Then one day while they were sleeping, one of them heard the portal open and thus the war commenced.

The eleven Maul Corp minions stepped out from the interdimensional portal onto the Mystical Isle. They quickly got into formation and charged across the Somber Footbridge. However, being evil and thus disinclined to cooperation, they soon broke ranks so as to move faster individually. Lord Maul’s minions charged ahead, heedless of the disarray within their ranks and shrieking evilly with bloodlust. They descended upon the hapless heroes gathered near the Iron Stables. Despite the ferocity of their charge, Lord Maul’s minions were forced back by a Knight carrying a massive shield and a small pistol and by a Berserker carrying two swords who was so powerful that a normal battle strike could not fell him.

Then these two heroes began to retreat backward, luring the Maul Corp legion after them. Thinking the heroes were leading them to their base of operations, the Maul Corp soldiers pressed their presumed advantage until they arrived back at the Somber Footbridge. There, the Berserker once again engaged them in battle, distracting the bloodthirsty members of Maul Corp while his Knightly friend retreated stealthily towards the Field of Destiny. Suddenly, the remaining heroes rushed forward from the Field of Destiny, lead by the valiant Knight. The entire Maul Corp legion was swiftly slaughtered.

Before they could congratulate themselves on their bravery and general awesomeness, a frantic fleeing peasant came upon them and told the heroes that some Maul Corp agents were destroying her nearby village. The heroes quickly gathered up their arms and rushed off to towards the village where they found it had been utterly and evilly destroyed. In righteous anger, they set out to destroy the minions of Maul Corp again. However, on the way to battle, they encountered three giant warriors. The giants declared that if the heroes could defeat them in a duel, they would join the heroes on their quest for revenge. The heroes, of course, defeated the giants handily and together they hunted down the Maul Corp agents and killed them

Unfortunately, as the final Maul Corp agent lay dying, with his last breath he whispered to one of the giant warriors a promise that if the giants would instead fight for Maul Corp, then Lord Maul would reward them with unfathomable riches.

The monstrous warriors then turned and attacked the heroes, who knew of the power that greed held over giants, so they quickly promised the giant both riches and honor if they helped them defeat Maul Corp agents instead. The giants agreed and the heroes and giants parted ways to go hunt down more of the Maul Corp legion.

Story synopsis for Spring LARP #8 (2018)

Twenty intrepid yet hapless heroes gathered in the lee of the Faraway Leaf Inn. Their goal was to find and secure five magical relics. These relics had little power on their own but could be combined to generate an interdimensional portal. The most honored teller of stories had learned that Lord Maul planned to capture these relics for his own and to use the interdimensional portal to escape from Dragonwood and enter another realm where he could amass new armies for Maul Corp.

The heroes’ goal was to retrieve the relics, secure them safely from Lord Maul’s minions, and to cast a spell upon the relics to render them powerless, leaving them as mere inanimate objects.

The heroes set out toward the Mystical Isle, where three of the mystical magical mysterious relics were hidden. Tragically, Maul Corp had set out sooner and thus the heroes were not the first to uncover the three objet d’art. While Maul Corp celebrated their capture all three powerful precious ponderous commodities hidden on the isle, the heroes charged off towards the Dire Garden to collect the fourth contrivance — except for three particularly sneaky adventurers, who split off from the main group in an attempt to secure the fifth trophy of terror before Maul Corp thought to seek it out.

Unfortunately, a Maul Corp assassin spied the three brave souls slipping away from the main group, and suspecting a devious plot, the assassin followed them. Seeing that they were after the fifth relic, the assassin killed all three heroes and claimed the large luminous luscious artifact for Maul Corp.

Back in the Dire Garden, Maul Corp was also victorious, claiming the fourth relic which had been hidden within the Dire Garden. Opening the portal, Lord Maul jumped through with some of his officers and a grand scheme to amass a new army in a new realm.

Utterly defeated in their goals but not in their spirits, the twenty heroes decided their best course of action was to go celebrate friendship and honor with a cold drink and a sweet biscuit from the Faraway Leaf Inn. And to never speak of this day again.
